State Law Institute to study the effects of certain child custody and visitation orders A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To direct the Louisiana State Law Institute to study the impact of child custody and2 visitation orders which require a child to travel long distances in order to comply3 with the custody or visitation order of the court.4 WHEREAS, an increasing number of children have parents who live separate from5 one another and who share custody or visitation rights of their children; and6 WHEREAS, given the current economic condition of the United States, parents are7 frequently having to move greater distances to find employment in order to support their8 families; and9 WHEREAS, due to parents moving greater distances apart, children are frequently10 having to travel farther in order to comply with custody and visitation orders; and11 WHEREAS, there is a growing concern and need to further understand the impact12 of these travel requirements on children; and13 WHEREAS, these concerns involve both legal and psychological analysis of the14 issues; and15 WHEREAS, in conducting a study of these issues, it would be beneficial to receive16 input from developmental psychologists and other mental health professionals which may17 be appropriate.18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby19 direct the Louisiana State Law Institute to study the legal and psychological impact of child20 custody and visitation orders which require a child to travel long distances in order to21 HLS 10RS-3384 ENGROSSED HCR NO. 160 Page 2 of 2 comply with the custody or visitation order of the court and to receive input from1 developmental psychologists and other appropriate mental health professionals in2 performing this study.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted4 to the director of the Louisiana State Law Institute and that the Louisiana State Law Institute5 report its findings and recommendations to the Legislature of Louisiana on or before January6 1, 2012.7 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
