HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 160
BY REPRESENTATIVE HENRY
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To direct the Louisiana State Law Institute to study the impact of child custody and
visitation orders which require a child to travel long distances in order to comply
with the custody or visitation order of the court.
WHEREAS, an increasing number of children have parents who live separate from
one another and who share custody or visitation rights of their children; and
WHEREAS, given the current economic condition of the United States, parents are
frequently having to move greater distances to find employment in order to support their
families; and
WHEREAS, due to parents moving greater distances apart, children are frequently
having to travel farther in order to comply with custody and visitation orders; and
WHEREAS, there is a growing concern and need to further understand the impact
of these travel requirements on children; and
WHEREAS, these concerns involve both legal and psychological analysis of the
issues; and
WHEREAS, in conducting a study of these issues, it would be beneficial to receive
input from developmental psychologists and other mental health professionals which may
be appropriate.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
direct the Louisiana State Law Institute to study the legal and psychological impact of child
custody and visitation orders which require a child to travel long distances in order to
comply with the custody or visitation order of the court and to receive input from
developmental psychologists and other appropriate mental health professionals in
performing this study. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 160
