HLS 10RS-2271 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 171 BY REPRESENTATIVES JANE SMITH, HENRY BURNS, AND ROY LEVEES/BDS & DISTRICTS: Urges and requests DOTD to study the impact of expanding the territorial jurisdiction of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the impact2 of expanding the territorial jurisdiction of the Coastal Protection and Restoration3 Authority to include any levee district that is not in the coastal area and under its4 current jurisdiction or authority.5 WHEREAS, it is strongly recommended that the Department of Transportation and6 Development study the impact of expanding the territorial jurisdiction of the Coastal7 Protection and Restoration Authority to include any levee district that is not in the coastal8 area and under its current jurisdiction or authority; and.9 WHEREAS, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority is charged with10 oversight of the design, construction, extension, improvement, repair, and regulation of11 hurricane protection and flood control projects in the coastal area; and12 WHEREAS, the inspection of hurricane protection and flood control levees and13 structures within the coastal area is also the responsibility of the Office of the Coastal14 Protection and Restoration; and15 WHEREAS, the jurisdiction of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority16 currently includes only those levee districts within the coastal area of the state; and17 WHEREAS, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority should maintain the18 current status of any levee district that is not under its current jurisdiction for at least one19 year or until the Department of Transportation and Development conducts and finalizes its20 study.21 HLS 10RS-2271 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 171 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1 urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the impact of2 expanding the territorial jurisdiction of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to3 include any levee district that is not in the coastal area and under its current jurisdiction or4 authority.5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority6 should maintain the current status of any levee district that is not under its current7 jurisdiction for at least one year or until the Department of Transportation and Development8 conducts and finalizes its study.9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the10 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development, the chairman of the Coastal11 Protection and Restoration Authority, and the executive director of the Office of Coastal12 Protection and Restoration.13 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
