ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 176 BY REPRESENTATIVES MCVEA, EDWARDS, AND THIBAUT AND SENATOR RISER A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Louise Williams of Weyanoke upon the celebration of her one-hundred-tenth birthday on June 15, 2010. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Louise Williams of Baton Rouge upon the historic occasion of the celebration of her one-hundred-tenth birthday; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was born on June 15, 1900, in Weyanoke, Louisiana, to Annie and Harry Cathern; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams and her husband of forty-five years, Andrew Williams, welcomed their daughter, Caroline Williams Adams, in 1921; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is the loving and devoted matriarch of a family which includes her daughter, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams helped support her family by doing seamstress work while her husband worked at a saw mill; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams attends St. Paul Baptist Church #1 in Weyanoke, where she was baptized in 1919 and served in various capacities; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams has seen much change throughout her long life and vividly recalls the first time she ever saw an automobile and rode in an airplane; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams currently resides at St. Francisville Country Manor, where she is a member of the resident council and participates in various activities, including an exercise wellness program, church services, popcorn and movie parties, and family visits; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is celebrating her one-hundred-tenth birthday on Thursday, June 15, 2010, with family and friends; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 176 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, for well over a century, Louise Williams has distinguished herself as an exemplary and highly admired citizen of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the fellow citizens of Louise Williams hope that she is aware of how much pride and joy her long and wonderful life has brought to them; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like Louise Williams, an exceptional woman and an inspiration to all; and WHEREAS, Louise Williams merits a special measure of commendation for the tremendous honor that she brings to the town of Weyanoke, to the state of Louisiana, and to all who know and love her. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Louise Williams of Weyanoke upon the memorable and historic celebration of her one-hundred-tenth birthday, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary life she has lived in the eleven decades since her birth, does hereby express enduring gratitude for the singular contributions she has made to her family, friends, community, and state, and does hereby extend to her every good wish for health and happiness.
