BY REPRESENTATIVE LEBAS
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the National Rifle Association for developing the Eddie
Eagle Gun Safety Education Program in schools
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the National Rifle Association for developing the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety2
Education Program in schools and to encourage civil and community service3
organizations to help provide funding for the program.4
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the National Rifle Association for5
developing the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program to teach children about the6
importance of gun safety; and 7
WHEREAS, teaching children to act safely around firearms is a critical step in the8
effort to reduce the number of firearm-related accidents among children; and9
WHEREAS, the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program teaches the10
fundamentals of firearm safety to children in an effective and enjoyable way, communicating11
to them the lifesaving message offered by the program that instructs children to stay away12
from firearms and report them to adults; and 13
WHEREAS, the nationally recognized Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program14
has been used by more than ten thousand public and private schools and law enforcement15
agencies and has reached more than twenty-one million children since its founding in 1988;16
and17
WHEREAS, Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program received the 1994 Golden18
Achievement Award from the National School Public Relations Association, the 199519
National Education Award from the American Legion, and the 1996 Award of Merit from20 HLS 10RS-1694	ORIGINAL

the National Safety Council's Award and Recognition Committee of the Youth Activities1
Division; and 2
WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association merits a special measure of3
commendation for its commitment to the safety of the children of the United States through4
the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby6
commend the National Rifle Association for developing the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety7
Education Program in schools and does hereby encourage civil and community service8
organizations that are concerned about the safety and welfare of children to help provide9
funding for the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Program.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted11
to the president of the National Rifle Association.12
