HLS 10RS-3847 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 180 BY REPRESENTATIVES GREENE, MICHAEL JACKSON, AND KATZ AND SENATOR ERDEY CHILDREN: Commends East Baton Rouge Parish upon winning the Sixteenth Annual Elementary Championship Fitness Meet of the Governor's Games sponsored by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend East Baton Rouge Parish upon winning the Sixteenth Annual Elementary2 Championship Fitness Meet of the Governor's Games sponsored by the Governor's3 Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.4 WHEREAS, elementary school children from parishes throughout the state engaged5 in physical fitness competitions as part of the Sixteenth Annual Elementary Championship6 Fitness Meet of the Governor's Games, which was held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the7 Louisiana State University Field House in Baton Rouge; and8 WHEREAS, the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports sponsors this9 Olympic-style event in the spring of each year involving thousands of Louisiana10 schoolchildren in physical fitness activities; and11 WHEREAS, students performed physical fitness tests consisting of the fifty-yard12 dash, sit and reach, shuttle run, pull-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups), standing long jump, and the six-13 hundred-yard run; and14 WHEREAS, East Baton Rouge Parish achieved a total score of two thousand seven15 hundred twenty-six points and edged out Rapides Parish for the championship; and16 WHEREAS, the members of the East Baton Rouge Parish team were Eddie White17 and Cedric Williams of LaSalle Elementary; Malik Kelly of Shenandoah Elementary;18 Taiylar DeMoss of Audubon Elementary; and Joshua London, Sophia Plain, and Jamiee19 Williams of Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary; and20 HLS 10RS-3847 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 180 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Taiylar DeMoss of East Baton Rouge Parish scored six hundred ninety-1 six points to lead all elementary school girls in the meet and was crowned Miss Fitness; and2 WHEREAS, Ms. DeMoss set a new fitness meet record in the curl-ups event; and3 WHEREAS, Eddie White of East Baton Rouge Parish scored six hundred eighty-one4 points to lead all elementary school boys in the meet and was crowned Mister Fitness; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. White set a new fitness meet record for total individual points6 scored by a boy; and7 WHEREAS, the outstanding performance of the East Baton Rouge Parish team is a8 source of pride and honor for the community, parish, and state.9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby10 commend the East Baton Rouge Parish team upon winning the Sixteenth Annual Elementary11 Championship Fitness Meet.12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend13 best wishes to the participants, coaches, and every person involved with this fine fitness14 program as they celebrate their exceptional accomplishment.15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted16 to Carol Revel of Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary in Baton Rouge, coach17 of the winning team at the 2010 Elementary Championship Fitness Meet of the Governor's18 Games.19 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
