BY REPRESENTATIVES GREENE, MICHAEL JACKSON, KATZ, AND PONTI AND
SENATORS BROOME AND ERDEY
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend East Baton Rouge Parish upon winning the Sixteenth Annual Elementary
Championship Fitness Meet of the Governor's Games sponsored by the Governor's
Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
WHEREAS, elementary school children from parishes throughout the state engaged
in physical fitness competitions as part of the Sixteenth Annual Elementary Championship
Fitness Meet of the Governor's Games, which was held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the
Louisiana State University Field House in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports sponsors this
Olympic-style event in the spring of each year involving thousands of Louisiana school
children in physical fitness activities; and
WHEREAS, students performed physical fitness tests consisting of the fifty-yard
dash, sit and reach, shuttle run, pull-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups), standing long jump, and the six-
hundred-yard run; and
WHEREAS, East Baton Rouge Parish achieved a total score of two thousand seven
hundred twenty-six points and edged out Rapides Parish for the championship; and
WHEREAS, the members of the East Baton Rouge Parish team were Eddie White
and Cedric Williams of LaSalle Elementary; Malik Kelly of Shenandoah Elementary;
Taiylar DeMoss of Audubon Elementary; and Joshua London, Sophia Plain, and Jamiee
Williams of Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary; and
WHEREAS, Taiylar DeMoss of East Baton Rouge Parish scored six hundred ninety-
six points to lead all elementary school girls in the meet and was crowned Miss Fitness; and
WHEREAS, Ms. DeMoss set a new fitness meet record in the curl-ups event; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 180

WHEREAS, Eddie White of East Baton Rouge Parish scored six hundred eighty-one
points to lead all elementary school boys in the meet and was crowned Mister Fitness; and
WHEREAS, Mr. White set a new fitness meet record for total individual points
scored by a boy; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding performance of the East Baton Rouge Parish team is a
source of pride and honor for the community, parish, and state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the East Baton Rouge Parish team upon winning the Sixteenth Annual Elementary
Championship Fitness Meet.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend
best wishes to the participants, coaches, and every person involved with this fine fitness
program as they celebrate their exceptional accomplishment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Carol Revel of Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary in Baton Rouge, coach
of the winning team at the 2010 Elementary Championship Fitness Meet of the Governor's
Games.
