BY REPRESENTATIVE FOIL AND SENATOR CLAITOR
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Kleinpeter Farms Dairy for its contributions to the
state's economy, its environmental stewardship, and its community service
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Kleinpeter Farms Dairy for its contributions to Louisiana's economy, its2
environmental stewardship, and its community service.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate the achievements of4
Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, a true Louisiana institution; and5
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has been a family-owned and independently6
operated dairy since 1913, and the Kleinpeters, in their fourth generation of ownership, have7
been farming and processing milk longer than anyone in Louisiana; and8
WHEREAS, Jeff Kleinpeter, President and Chief Executive Officer, Kleinpeter9
Farms Dairy, currently co-owns the company with his sister, Sue Anne Kleinpeter Cox,10
Chief Financial Officer, and their brothers and sisters; and11
WHEREAS, for nearly a century, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has been a thriving part12
of the state's economy, and within the past two and a half years, it has expanded its service13
area from its base of Baton Rouge and New Orleans to statewide throughout Louisiana and14
into southern Mississippi; and15
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy uses ingredients from nearby farmers in its16
products, including milk from twenty Louisiana dairies, helping to keep small family farms17
in business; and18
WHEREAS, in January of 2008, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy opened Louisiana's only19
ice cream plant; the ice cream now comes in nineteen very popular flavors and is made with20
Ponchatoula strawberries, Ruston peaches, sweet potatoes from Bruce Foods, Community21 HLS 10RS-3424	ORIGINAL

Coffee, Bergeron pecans, and Louisiana sugar cane, as well as Gold Brick Eggs from Elmer1
Candy Company of Ponchatoula and pralines from New Orleans candy maker Aunt Sally's2
pralines; and3
WHEREAS, in a period of economic recession, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has played4
a significant role in bolstering the state's economy through its successful product lines and5
its utilization of resources from all throughout the state; and6
WHEREAS, in addition to its economic contributions to Louisiana, the Kleinpeter7
family has a tradition of caring for the environment that goes back four generations; and8
WHEREAS, in 2007, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy partnered with the East Baton Rouge9
City-Parish government to promote recycling, and this campaign continues to produce10
positive results in increasing recycling efforts in the area; and11
WHEREAS, in March of 2010, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy was honored by the12
Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality with the Achievement Award in the13
Medium Business category for a series of innovative pollution prevention programs; and14
WHEREAS, on April 20, 2010, in a ceremony on Capitol Hill, Kleinpeter Farms15
Dairy received the 2010 Seal of Sustainability, a national environmental award, from the16
Sustainable Business Institute; this year, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy was one of only two17
recipients of this very prestigious award, which is given to companies demonstrating18
continuous commitment to sustainable business practices; and19
WHEREAS, these pollution prevention programs were undertaken under the20
initiative of the dairy's owners and not due to any requirement by any regulatory agency, and21
the practices led to significant reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases and solid and22
liquid wastes and resulted in substantial economic savings to the dairy; and23
WHEREAS, in addition, the Kleinpeter Dairy Farm in St. Helena Parish is a zero-24
effluent facility, and the farm received the Louisiana Wildlife Federation Conservation25
Award in 2007; and26
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, which has never used rBGH, recombinant27
Bovine Growth Hormone, is the first dairy in Louisiana to become certified as American28
Humane Certified by the American Humane Association for providing the best animal care29

WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy's impact on Louisiana and her communities1
reaches beyond economic and environmental achievements, as it is one of the most2
community service-oriented companies in the state's history; and3
WHEREAS, a video called "Milk: From Moo to You", which was produced by4
Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, is part of the economics curriculum in East Baton Rouge Parish5
schools; Kleinpeter Farms Dairy played a significant role in relief efforts during and in the6
aftermaths of the hurricanes of recent years; and Kleinpeter Farms Dairy provides assistance7
to more than two hundred fifty charities in Louisiana; and8
WHEREAS, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy, an extraordinary family company, merits a9
special measure of commendation for the tremendous pride and honor it brings to the state10
of Louisiana.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby12
commend Kleinpeter Farms Dairy for its singular contributions to the growth and13
development of Louisiana's economy, for its steadfast commitment to environmental14
stewardship, and for its unwavering community service, does hereby recognize and record15
for posterity the unique place the company holds in the annals of Louisiana history, and does16
hereby extend to the entire Kleinpeter Farms Dairy family best wishes for continued success17
and happiness in their future endeavors.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
to the owners of Kleinpeter Farms Dairy.20
