HIGHWAYS: Requests DOTD to install a red light at the intersection of North Acadia
Road on La. Highway 648 (Percy Brown Road) in Lafourche Parish and to reduce
the speed along this route
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to install a red light2
at the intersection of North Acadia Road on Louisiana Highway 648 (Percy Brown3
Road) in Lafourche Parish and to reduce the speed along this route.4
WHEREAS, numerous requests have been submitted to the Department of5
Transportation and Development by the people of Thibodaux for a traffic signal at the6
intersection of Percy Brown Road (Louisiana Highway 648); and7
WHEREAS, traffic has been increasing in this area and, as indicated by recent deaths8
and numerous traffic accidents, a traffic light is desperately needed to protect drivers passing9
through this busy intersection; and10
WHEREAS, there is a subdivision on the opposite side of the roadway, and it is11
difficult to cross over to the subdivision; and12
WHEREAS, this subdivision contributes significantly to the traffic congestion of that13
area; and14
WHEREAS, on this route is a ninety degree curve on the road; and15
WHEREAS, in order for motor vehicles to accommodate this curve the speed should16
be reduced from fifty-five miles per hour to forty-five miles per hour; and 17
WHEREAS, preventive steps, such as erecting a traffic signal and reducing the18
speed limit along this route should diminish the current public safety hazard for this growing19

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to install a red light at2
the intersection of North Acadia Road on Louisiana Highway 648 (Percy Brown Road) in3
Lafourche Parish and to reduce the speed on this route to forty-five miles per hour.4
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the5
secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.6
