HIGHWAYS: Requests the Dept. of Transportation and Development to install highway
shoulders along LA Highway 308
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2
possibility of installing highway shoulders along that portion of Louisiana Highway3
308 which runs south of Louisiana Highway 90 in Lafourche Parish.4
WHEREAS, Louisiana Highway 308 was closed several hours in the past due to5
numerous vehicular accidents that caused wrecked motor vehicles to be pulled off of the6
roadway because of the lack of highway shoulders; and7
WHEREAS, vehicle breakdowns on a highway lacking a highway shoulder would8
create a strong possibly of accidents; and9
WHEREAS, currently there is a new bridge being constructed over Bayou Lafourche10
in LaRose, Louisiana, as part of the federal stimulus package; and11
WHEREAS, this new bridge currently being constructed will serve as a direct link12
connecting Louisiana Highway 308 to Louisiana Highway 3235, a four-lane highway used13
mostly by commercial motor vehicles traveling to and from Port Fourchon; and14
WHEREAS, other vehicles, including offshore service vehicles, will be traveling on15
Louisiana Highway 308 more frequently when the new bridge is open to traveling motorists16
and these vehicles; and17
WHEREAS, this portion of Louisiana Highway 308 and the new bridge currently18
being constructed will serve as both a critical link and an evacuation route between the Gulf19
of Mexico and Louisiana Highway 90; and20 HLS 10RS-1243 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, with the installation of highway shoulders it would diminish the current1
public safety hazard and would diminish the waiting times of necessity of clearing accidents2
along this stretch of Louisiana Highway 308. 3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby4
urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the possibility5
of installing highway shoulders along that portion of Louisiana Highway 308 which runs6
south of Louisiana Highway 90 in Lafourche Parish.7
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation and8
Development is further requested to study the installation of highway shoulders, specifically9
along the lengthy stretches of farmland and where there are no residences or businesses10
adjacent to the highway.11
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the12
secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.13
