HIGHWAYS: Requests the Dept. of Transportation and Development to install highway
shoulders along La. Highway 308 and through Ascension Parish to La. Highway 1
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2
possibility of installing highway shoulders along that portion of Louisiana Highway3
308 which runs south of Louisiana Highway 90 in Lafourche Parish and through4
Ascension Parish to Louisiana Highway 1.5
WHEREAS, Louisiana Highway 308 was closed several hours in the past due to6
numerous vehicular accidents that caused wrecked motor vehicles to be pulled off of the7
roadway because of the lack of highway shoulders; and8
WHEREAS, vehicle breakdowns on a highway lacking a highway shoulder would9
create a strong possibility of accidents; and10
WHEREAS, currently there is a new bridge being constructed over Bayou Lafourche11
in LaRose, Louisiana, as part of the federal stimulus package; and12
WHEREAS, this new bridge currently being constructed will serve as a direct link13
connecting Louisiana Highway 308 to Louisiana Highway 3235, a four-lane highway used14
mostly by commercial motor vehicles traveling to and from Port Fourchon; and15
WHEREAS, other vehicles, including offshore service vehicles, will be traveling on16
Louisiana Highway 308 more frequently when the new bridge is open to traveling motorists17
and these vehicles; and18
WHEREAS, this portion of Louisiana Highway 308 and the new bridge currently19
being constructed will serve as both a critical link and an evacuation route between the Gulf20
of Mexico and Louisiana Highway 90; and21 HLS 10RS-1243 ENGROSSED

WHEREAS, with the installation of highway shoulders, it would diminish the1
current public safety hazard and would diminish the waiting times of necessity of clearing2
accidents along this stretch of Louisiana Highway 308. 3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby4
urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the possibility5
of installing highway shoulders along that portion of Louisiana Highway 308 which runs6
south of Louisiana Highway 90 in Lafourche Parish and through Ascension Parish to7
Louisiana Highway 1.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation and9
Development is further requested to study the installation of highway shoulders, specifically10
along the lengthy stretches of farmland and where there are no residences or businesses11
adjacent to the highway.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation and13
Development also shall consider for the driving public to install highway shoulders through14
Ascension Parish to Louisiana Highway 1.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the16
secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.17
