COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team
upon winning the Class 4A state championship
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team upon winning the 20102
Class 4A state championship.3
WHEREAS, the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team completed a4
sensational season, earning the title of 2010 Class 4A state champions after defeating Bossier5
High School by a score of 61-58 to win the state championship game at the Lafayette6
Cajundome on Saturday, March 13, 2010; and 7
WHEREAS, the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team was undefeated8
for the 2009-2010 season, finishing with a final record of 41-0; and9
WHEREAS, the championship win was the sixth state basketball championship for10
the Warhorses and the culmination of another unforgettable season; and 11
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence12
throughout the season and playoffs, and each of these great Warhorses deserves recognition13
for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and 14
WHEREAS, the Warhorses were led by senior Markel Brown, the team's captain,15
who scored twenty-five points and was named Most Valuable Player of the championship16
game; and17
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved18
without the guidance and skills of head coach Charles Smith as well as all of the other19
individuals who have contributed to the success of the school's basketball program; and 20 HLS 10RS-1997 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, in recognition of their extraordinary achievements, coach Charles Smith1
and Markel Brown were named Class 4A Coach of the Year and Player of the Year,2
respectively, by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association; and3
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2009-2010 season upholds the glorious tradition4
of the Warhorses, and all Peabody Magnet High School alumni and fans recognize the5
immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and6
state.7
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby8
commend the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team upon winning the 20109
Class 4A state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and10
everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional11
season and prepare for continued success in the future.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted13
to Charles Smith, head coach of the Peabody Magnet High School boys basketball team.14
