CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Reverend Louis Griffin III of
Baton Rouge
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Reverend Louis Griffin III2
of Baton Rouge.3
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Reverend Louis Griffin III of Baton Rouge5
on Friday, March 12, 2010, at the age of seventy-seven; and 6
WHEREAS, a native of Chamberlin, Reverend Griffin served with unwavering7
dedication and great distinction as the pastor of Friendship Chapel Baptist Church for more8
than forty years of highly productive service; and9
WHEREAS, Reverend Griffin is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Eliza10
Atkins Griffin; daughter, Dianne G. Douglas; six brothers, Leroy Griffin, Freddie Griffin,11
Earnest C. Griffin, Thomas Griffin, Jr., Phillip Griffin, and Larry Griffin; sister, Dorothy G.12
Antoine; two grandchildren, Renika Nicole Douglas and Carville Deon Griffin; uncle,13
Wilbert Olinde; eleven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews;14
and an array of extended family members and friends; and15
WHEREAS, Reverend Griffin was preceded in death by his former wife, Genevia16
E. Griffin; mother, Delphine C. Griffin; father, Thomas Griffin, Sr.; sister, Rose G.17
Brimmer; and brother, Jessie B. Griffin; and18
WHEREAS, with the death of Reverend Griffin, Louisiana has lost one of her finest19

WHEREAS, Reverend Griffin, who was admired by all whose lives he touched,1
leaves behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and2
WHEREAS, although the death of Reverend Griffin has left a tremendous void in3
his community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew4
and loved him.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby6
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Reverend Louis Griffin III of7
Baton Rouge, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding8
accomplishments and singular contributions as pastor of Friendship Chapel Baptist Church,9
and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful10
man will forever bring to his family, friends, and community, Friendship Chapel Baptist11
Church, the city of Baton Rouge, and the state of Louisiana.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted13
to the family of Reverend Louis Griffin III. 14
