CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Alonzo Pink Jackson, Sr., of
Shreveport
A RESOLUTION1
To express the condolences of the Louisiana House of Representatives upon the death of2
Alonzo Pink Jackson, Sr., of Shreveport.3
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
Louisiana House of Representatives learned of the death of Alonzo Pink Jackson, Sr., on5
Saturday, December 5, 2009, at the age of fifty-eight; and 6
WHEREAS, born on May 2, 1951, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Mr. Jackson was7
the third child of Pink and Elizabeth Jackson; and 8
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson received his primary and secondary education in Hartsville9
and graduated from Clafton University in Orangeburg, South Carolina; and 10
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson accepted Christ early in life and united with St. John11
United Methodist Church in Hartsville; and12
WHEREAS, in 1975, Mr. Jackson relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he made13
his home for thirty-four years; and 14
WHEREAS, in Shreveport, Mr. Jackson joined Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church and later15
joined Abounding Faith Temple; and 16
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was employed by the Port of Shreveport-Bossier as17
Environmental and Safety Director, was an active member of the C.C. Antoine Lodge18
Number 185, and co-founded the West Shreveport Little League; and 19
WHEREAS, a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, over the20
years Mr. Jackson served four terms as polemarch of the Shreveport Alumni Chapter; and21 HLS 10RS-298	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a beloved1
citizen of the state of Louisiana; and 2
WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Anita3
Townsend Jackson; his children, Chelsea T. Jackson and Alonzo Pink Jackson, Jr.; his4
parents, Pink and Elizabeth Jackson; three sisters, Barbara, Eunice, and Suzette Jackson; and5
an array of extended family members and friends; and 6
WHEREAS, although the death of Alonzo Pink Jackson, Sr., has left a tremendous7
void in his community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who8
knew and loved him.9
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the10
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the11
death of Alonzo Pink Jackson, Sr., of Shreveport and does hereby extend enduring12
appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever bring13
to his family, friends, community, and state.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15
to the family of Alonzo Pink Jackson, Sr.16
