HLS 10RS-4848 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 4 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 119 BY REPRESENTATIVES HAZEL AND ROY CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Judge Alfred Ameen Mansour of Alexandria A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Judge Alfred Ameen2 Mansour of Alexandria.3 WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Judge5 Alfred Ameen Mansour of Alexandria on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the age of eighty-five;6 and 7 WHEREAS, born in Lake Village, Arkansas, on March 9, 1925, to Lula and Habeeb8 Mansour, Judge Mansour was the second of four children; and 9 WHEREAS, during World War II, Judge Mansour served with great valor as a10 combat infantryman, was wounded in action in the fall of 1944, and earned the Combat11 Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star Medal for his distinguished service12 to his country; and13 WHEREAS, after completing his military service, Judge Mansour became a member14 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and15 WHEREAS, in 1946, Judge Mansour enrolled at Loyola University in New Orleans16 to study pre-law as an undergraduate, and he graduated from Loyola Law School in 1951;17 and 18 WHEREAS, upon his graduation from law school, Judge Mansour began a career as19 an attorney in Alexandria that would span twenty-seven years, ending in 1979 when he was20 elected judge; and21 HLS 10RS-4848 ORIGINAL HR NO. 119 Page 2 of 4 WHEREAS, during his law practice, Judge Mansour was a dedicated member of the1 American, Louisiana, and Alexandria Bar Associations and the American and Louisiana2 Trial Lawyers Associations, and he served with great distinction as president of the3 Alexandria Bar Association in 1970; and4 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was also a member of the Louisiana State Bar5 Association House of Delegates, Nominating Committee, and Continuing Legal Education6 Committee; and7 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was elected judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court8 on September 16, 1978, assumed office on January 2, 1979, and served in this capacity for9 sixteen years; and10 WHEREAS, in 1994, he served as president of the Louisiana District Judges11 Association, and he was a member of the Louisiana District Judges Association Executive12 Committee for fourteen years; and13 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour also served on various Louisiana Supreme Court14 committees, including a committee on judicial ethics; and15 WHEREAS, in 1994, Judge Mansour received the Distinguished Jurist Award from16 the Louisiana Bar Foundation; and17 WHEREAS, after his mandatory retirement in 1995 at the age of seventy, Judge18 Mansour continued to serve in various temporary capacities; and 19 WHEREAS, in 1998, Judge Mansour received the Causidicus Award, which is given20 to an attorney who has reached the pinnacle of his or her professional life; and 21 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was honored by the Alexandria Bar Association in22 September of 2007 for his exemplary service in the practice of law; and23 WHEREAS, in addition to his service in the field of law, Judge Mansour also served24 his community as president of FOTAZ and the Little Theater, a member of the Lay Advisory25 Committee of Louisiana State University at Alexandria, and president-elect of the Central26 Louisiana Mental Health Association; and27 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was a man of great faith and a devout member of St.28 Frances Cabrini Catholic Church; and29 HLS 10RS-4848 ORIGINAL HR NO. 119 Page 3 of 4 WHEREAS, in 1996, the Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria1 honored Judge Mansour for his support and leadership in Catholic education, naming him2 as an honoree at a testimonial dinner; and3 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was a loving husband to his wife, Mary Jo Mansour,4 and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and5 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour is survived by two sons, Dr. Alfred Ameen Mansour,6 Jr., and his wife, Maryetta, and Dr. Richard Preston Mansour and his wife, Merrial;7 daughter, Sharon Mansour Meek, and her husband, Dr. James Meek; brother, Donald8 Mansour; sister, Marilyn Mansour Karam; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;9 his close friend, Monsignor Fredrick Lyons; and an array of extended family members and10 friends; and11 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Mansour;12 parents, Habeeb and Lula Hesni Mansour; grandson, Patrick Michael Meek; and brother,13 Hab Mansour; and14 WHEREAS, with the death of Judge Mansour, Louisiana has lost one of her finest15 citizens; and 16 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour, who was admired by all whose lives he touched, leaves17 behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and18 WHEREAS, although the death of Judge Mansour has left a tremendous void in his19 community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and20 loved him.21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the22 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the23 death of Judge Alfred Ameen Mansour of Alexandria, does hereby recognize and record for24 posterity his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions through his25 extraordinary service as a lawyer and judge for more than forty years, and does hereby26 extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever27 bring to his family, friends, community, and church, the city of Alexandria, the state of28 Louisiana, and the United States of America.29 HLS 10RS-4848 ORIGINAL HR NO. 119 Page 4 of 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted1 to the family of Judge Alfred Ameen Mansour. 2 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
