ENROLLED Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 119 BY REPRESENTATIVES HAZEL AND ROY A RESOLUTION To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Judge Alfred Ameen Mansour of Alexandria. WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Judge Alfred Ameen Mansour of Alexandria on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the age of eighty-five; and WHEREAS, born in Lake Village, Arkansas, on March 9, 1925, to Lula and Habeeb Mansour, Judge Mansour was the second of four children; and WHEREAS, during World War II, Judge Mansour served with great valor as a combat infantryman, was wounded in action in the fall of 1944, and earned the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star Medal for his distinguished service to his country; and WHEREAS, after completing his military service, Judge Mansour became a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and WHEREAS, in 1946, Judge Mansour enrolled at Loyola University in New Orleans to study pre-law as an undergraduate, and he graduated from Loyola Law School in 1951; and WHEREAS, upon his graduation from law school, Judge Mansour began a career as an attorney in Alexandria that would span twenty-seven years, ending in 1979 when he was elected judge; and WHEREAS, during his law practice, Judge Mansour was a dedicated member of the American, Louisiana, and Alexandria Bar Associations and the American and Louisiana Trial Lawyers Associations, and he served with great distinction as president of the Alexandria Bar Association in 1970; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 119 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association House of Delegates, Nominating Committee, and Continuing Legal Education Committee; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was elected judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court on September 16, 1978, assumed office on January 2, 1979, and served in this capacity for sixteen years; and WHEREAS, in 1994, he served as president of the Louisiana District Judges Association, and he was a member of the Louisiana District Judges Association Executive Committee for fourteen years; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour also served on various Louisiana Supreme Court committees, including a committee on judicial ethics; and WHEREAS, in 1994, Judge Mansour received the Distinguished Jurist Award from the Louisiana Bar Foundation; and WHEREAS, after his mandatory retirement in 1995 at the age of seventy, Judge Mansour continued to serve in various temporary capacities; and WHEREAS, in 1998, Judge Mansour received the Causidicus Award, which is given to an attorney who has reached the pinnacle of his or her professional life; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was honored by the Alexandria Bar Association in September of 2007 for his exemplary service in the practice of law; and WHEREAS, in addition to his service in the field of law, Judge Mansour also served his community as president of FOTAZ and the Little Theater, a member of the Lay Advisory Committee of Louisiana State University at Alexandria, and president-elect of the Central Louisiana Mental Health Association; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was a man of great faith and a devout member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, in 1996, the Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria honored Judge Mansour for his support and leadership in Catholic education, naming him as an honoree at a testimonial dinner; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was a loving husband to his wife, Mary Jo Mansour, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 119 Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, Judge Mansour is survived by two sons, Dr. Alfred Ameen Mansour, Jr., and his wife, Maryetta, and Dr. Richard Preston Mansour and his wife, Merrial; daughter, Sharon Mansour Meek, and her husband, Dr. James Meek; brother, Donald Mansour; sister, Marilyn Mansour Karam; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his close friend, Monsignor Fredrick Lyons; and an array of extended family members and friends; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Mansour; parents, Habeeb and Lula Hesni Mansour; grandson, Patrick Michael Meek; and brother, Hab Mansour; and WHEREAS, with the death of Judge Mansour, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens; and WHEREAS, Judge Mansour, who was admired by all whose lives he touched, leaves behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and WHEREAS, although the death of Judge Mansour has left a tremendous void in his community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Judge Alfred Ameen Mansour of Alexandria, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions through his extraordinary service as a lawyer and judge for more than forty years, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to his family, friends, community, and church, the city of Alexandria, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America.
