CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy
of Marksville
A RESOLUTION1
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel2
Roy of Marksville.3
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Gertrude5
Theresa Haydel Roy of Marksville on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the age of ninety; and 6
WHEREAS, a native of Avoyelles Parish, Mrs. Roy graduated from Moreauville7
High School and attended Louisiana State University; and8
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy married Marion Peter Roy, a former Louisiana state9
representative who served with great distinction from 1960 to 1964, and the couple resided10
in Marksville, where Mrs. Roy was active with her family and in her community; and11
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a dedicated member of the Marksville Garden Club, the12
Louisiana Commission des Avoyelles, and the Landscaper Club, and in her leisure time, she13
enjoyed playing bridge; and14
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,15
and homemaker; and16
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy is survived by two sons, Dr. Curtis H. Roy and his wife,17
Sharon Moss and Marion Peter Roy, Jr., and his wife, Jamie; four daughters, Melanie R.18
Yarbrough and her husband, Dr. Conway Yarbrough, Mary Jane R. Johnson and her19
husband, Sidney, Amy R. Gros and her husband, Craig, and Lisa R. Billodeau and her20 HLS 10RS-4908	ORIGINAL

husband, David; one brother, Rudy Haydel; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-1
grandchildren; and an array of extended family members and friends; and2
WHEREAS, with the death of Mrs. Roy, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens;3
and 4
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy, who was admired by all whose lives she touched, leaves5
behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and6
WHEREAS, although the death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy has left a7
tremendous void in her community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts8
of all who knew and loved her.9
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the10
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the11
death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy of Marksville, does hereby recognize and record for12
posterity her outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby13
extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever14
bring to her family, friends, community, and state.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted16
to the family of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy. 17
