HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 120
BY REPRESENTATIVES JOHNSON AND ROY
A RESOLUTION
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel
Roy of Marksville.
WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Gertrude
Theresa Haydel Roy of Marksville on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the age of ninety; and 
WHEREAS, a native of Avoyelles Parish, Mrs. Roy graduated from Moreauville
High School and attended Louisiana State University; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy married Marion Peter Roy, a former Louisiana state
representative who served with great distinction from 1960 to 1964, and the couple resided
in Marksville, where Mrs. Roy was active with her family and in her community; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a dedicated member of the Marksville Garden Club, the
Louisiana Commission des Avoyelles, and the Landscaper Club, and in her leisure time, she
enjoyed playing bridge; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
and homemaker; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy is survived by two sons, Dr. Curtis H. Roy and his wife,
Sharon Moss and Marion Peter Roy, Jr., and his wife, Jamie; four daughters, Melanie R.
Yarbrough and her husband, Dr. Conway Yarbrough, Mary Jane R. Johnson and her
husband, Sidney, Amy R. Gros and her husband, Craig, and Lisa R. Billodeau and her
husband, David; one brother, Rudy Haydel; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-
grandchildren; and an array of extended family members and friends; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Mrs. Roy, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens;

WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy, who was admired by all whose lives she touched, leaves
behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy has left a
tremendous void in her community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts
of all who knew and loved her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy of Marksville, does hereby recognize and record for
posterity her outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby
extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever
bring to her family, friends, community, and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Gertrude Theresa Haydel Roy.
