SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes June 14, 2010, as National Flag Day and
June 14-20, 2010, as National Flag Week and commends La. citizens for their
military service
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize June 14, 2010, as National Flag Day and June 14 through 20, 2010, as National2
Flag Week and to commend Louisiana citizens for their military service.3
WHEREAS, each year, National Flag Day is celebrated in the United States on the4
fourteenth of June, and the week during which this day falls is designated as National Flag5
Week; and6
WHEREAS, the American flag has been the national symbol for two hundred thirty-7
three years, and it remains a beacon of freedom wherever it is flown; and8
WHEREAS, Americans fly the flag to show their pride and appreciation for the9
freedoms they enjoy and pledge their allegiance to the flag, and American troops carry it10
before them as they defend the liberties for which it stands; and11
WHEREAS, on National Flag Day, the citizens of Louisiana remember those in12

WHEREAS, Representatives James K. Armes, III, Elton M. Aubert, Bobby G.1
Badon, Richard T. Burford, Henry L. Burns, Stephen F. Carter, Billy R. Chandler, Herbert2
B. Dixon, Hollis Downs, John Bel Edwards, James R. "Jim" Fannin, Franklin J. Foil, Jerry3
Gisclair, Lowell C. Hazel, Dalton W. Honore', Frank A. Howard, Girod Jackson, III,4

are serving presently in the military; and7
WHEREAS, on June 14, 2010, Representative Regina Ashford Barrow is hosting her8
fifth Annual "Celebrating the Red, White, and Blue" National Flag Day ceremony to9
commemorate the day with music, food, and fun; and 10
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize National Flag Day and National Flag11
Week and to take this opportunity to express enduring appreciation to all of Louisiana's12
citizens who have served or are serving in the military for the tremendous pride and honor13
they bring to the state of Louisiana and the United States of America.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the15
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize June 14, 2010, as National Flag Day and16
June 14 through 20, 2010, as National Flag Week and does hereby commend Louisiana17
citizens for their military service.18
