ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 173 BY REPRESENTATIVE ROSALIND JONES A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Mrs. Lucille Shaw Benford of Monroe and to recognize and record the contributions of this Louisianian to her city, family, and church community. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the House of Representatives have learned of the death of Mrs. Lucille Shaw Benford; and WHEREAS, Lucille Shaw Benford was born in Marlene, Falls County, Texas, on June 22, 1917, to Mr. James and Mrs. Octavia Shaw; and WHEREAS, in her earlier years she was a member of the Willing Workers organization and was an accomplished church musician who served several area churches as their pianist; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Shaw was very involved in her community as a devout member of the Mission Board; and WHEREAS, as a faithful member of the Mission Board, she visited the elderly at nursing homes and the sick and people who were unable to leave their homes; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Shaw was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her only child, Mrs. Lorraine Slacks, her two grandsons, and four great grandchildren; and WHEREAS, although the death of Mrs. Lucille Shaw Benford has left a void in the lives of those who loved and cared about her, her legacy, love, and good deeds shall live long in their hearts. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby record and acknowledge the contributions of Mrs. Lucille Shaw Benford to the city of Monroe, to her family, to her church community, and does hereby express the deepest regret and sorrow of the members upon her death.
