HLS 10RS-5451 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 174 BY REPRESENTATIVE HUTTER COMMENDATIONS : Commends Jean Thompson upon her retirement from House Legislative Services A RESOLUTION1 To commend Jean Thompson upon her retirement from House Legislative Services.2 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Jean Thompson upon her retirement from3 House Legislative Services and to recognize her significant contributions to the Louisiana4 House of Representatives; and5 WHEREAS, Jean Thompson, an integral member of the staff of the Louisiana House6 of Representatives for nearly three decades, is retiring in June of 2010 from her position as7 a legislative analyst with the House Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public8 Works; and9 WHEREAS, on December 1, 1981, Jean began her long and highly productive career10 with the House as a central staff analyst in the Fiscal Division; on January 19, 1999, she was11 assigned to staff the House Committee on Agriculture, and on September 12, 2000, she12 transferred to the staff of the House Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public13 Works and served in that capacity until her retirement; and14 WHEREAS, Jean served with great distinction as a House staffer, working15 steadfastly to provide outstanding assistance to House members and staff; and16 WHEREAS, a graduate of Carrie Martin High School and Southern University,17 where she received a bachelor of arts in political science degree in 1971 and a master of18 social science degree in 1972, before starting her career at the Louisiana House of19 Representatives, Jean served as a research analyst with the United Way in Minnesota; and20 HLS 10RS-5451 ORIGINAL HR NO. 174 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, in addition to her professional contributions, Jean is active in her1 community and serves as the president of the Home Mission of Mount Gideon Baptist2 Church; and3 WHEREAS, Jean will never be forgotten by the members and staff of the House,4 many of whom have had the opportunity to know her as a friend and mentor, and they will5 remember her excellence as an analyst and her readiness to assist in whatever project might6 benefit from her vast experience; they will miss not only Jean's fine professional abilities but7 also her humor, kindness, intelligence, and integrity; and8 WHEREAS, Jean Thompson merits the commendation, congratulations, and deep9 appreciation of the members and staff of the House, who will long benefit from her singular10 legacy.11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the12 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Jean Thompson upon her retirement from13 House Legislative Services, does hereby recognize and record for posterity Jean's singular14 contributions to the House and to its members and staff through the friendship, leadership,15 and able assistance she generously gave to all who worked with her, does hereby express to16 Jean sincere thanks for more than twenty-eight years of dedicated service, and does hereby17 extend to her every good wish for success and happiness in all of her future endeavors.18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19 to Jean Thompson.20 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
