COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Ryan O'Neill Poche' of Erath High School upon his
selection as a representative of La. at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Ryan O'Neill Poche' of Erath High School upon his selection as a2
representative of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Los3
Angeles, California.4
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche' attended the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth5
Leadership Seminar, held from June 4 through June 6, 2010, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and6
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) was established7
in 1958 by popular actor Hugh O'Brian following a visit to Africa where he was inspired8
after meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer to create an organization designed to encourage the9
discussion and methods by which young people can take a leadership role in society; and10
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche' was joined by one hundred twenty-one other young11
leaders representing their high schools throughout Louisiana, where they discussed the core12
values of the HOBY organization, including the impact of volunteering in one's community,13
partnership in community, and an appreciation and need for diversity in today's culture; and14
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress is held every year in15
conjunction with a major United States university, and the World Leadership Congress16
brings together young men and women from around the world for a week-long intensive17
educational leadership conference; and18
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche' was chosen to represent Louisiana in the Hugh19
O'Brian World Leadership Congress being held July 23 through July 30, 2010, at the20

WHEREAS, in September of each year, HOBY sends nomination materials to every1
accredited public and private high school in the United States, and each high school is2
invited to select one sophomore with demonstrated leadership abilities and potential to3
attend regional spring HOBY seminars; and4
WHEREAS, at the World Leadership Congress, students learn firsthand about other5
cultures and opinions, form friendships, and exchange ideas in an environment where they6
can feel comfortable in open discussions with their peers, learning to voice how they have7
shaped and formed their own views about the role of leadership in society; and8
WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian believes the most important thing in education is to teach9
young people to think for themselves, which, as a result of the more than three hundred10
thousand HOBY alumni, has influenced and inspired young people to become more involved11
in their communities; and12
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high13
school students to excel as leaders, using friendship with others as a catalyst for their14
learning experience.15
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the16
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate  Ryan O'Neill Poche'  of17
Erath High School upon his selection as a representative of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian18
World Leadership Congress in Los Angeles, California, and does hereby recognize the pride19
and honor that this wonderful young man has brought to his family, friends, school,20
community, and state.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted22
to Ryan O'Neill Poche'.23
