COMMENDATIONS: Commends LSU student Katherine Hollister Smith upon her receipt
of a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship and Award of Excellence from the Honor Society of
Phi Kappa Phi
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Louisiana State University student Katherine Hollister Smith upon her receipt2
of a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship and Award of Excellence from the Honor Society of3
Phi Kappa Phi.4
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend LSU student Katherine Hollister Smith5
upon her receipt of a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship and Award of Excellence from the Honor6
Society of Phi Kappa Phi; and7
WHEREAS, Ms. Smith, a senior majoring in math, attends the LSU Honors College8
and plans to enter medical school at Johns Hopkins University or Washington University in9
St. Louis; and10
WHEREAS, she is among only one hundred students nationwide to receive the Phi11
Kappa Phi Fellowship and Award of Excellence; and12
WHEREAS, Ms. Smith grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from Parkview13
Baptist High School; and14
WHEREAS, since its creation in 1932, the Fellowship Program allocates nearly three15
hundred eighty thousand dollars annually to deserving students for first-ye ar graduate or16
professional study; and17
WHEREAS, the selection process for the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowships and Awards of18
Excellence is based on the applicants' undergraduate academic performance, evidence of19

WHEREAS, Katherine Hollister Smith merits a special measure of commendation1
for her outstanding accomplishments and contributions as a citizen and scholar.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the3
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Katherine Hollister Smith, a student at4
Louisiana State University, upon her receipt of a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship and Award of5
Excellence from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, does hereby recognize and record for6
posterity her exceptional academic achievements and singular contributions, does hereby7
express enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor she brings to her8
university, community, and state, and does hereby extend her best wishes for continued9
success and happiness in all of her future endeavors. 10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted11
to Katherine Hollister Smith.12
