PURCHASING: Urges and requests the Dept. of Education to coordinate school boards in
developing a school bus purchasing contract plan
A RESOLUTION1
To urge and request the Department of Education to coordinate a task force comprised of2
parish school board representatives in order to develop a school bus purchasing3
contract plan for the state and report any results, findings, or recommendations to the4
House of Representatives on or before February 15, 2011.5
WHEREAS, savings and efficiencies could be realized from purchasing school buses6
in larger quantities by multiple school boards; and 7
WHEREAS, savings and efficiencies could be realized from multiple-year contracts8
which serve the long-term needs of school boards regarding school buses; and 9
WHEREAS, the Department of Education under the provisions of R.S. 17:158.3 is10
required to assist school boards with the most economical acquisition of school buses; and11
WHEREAS, if given the necessary specifications, the office of state purchasing and12
travel can assist the school boards in executing the most cost-effective contracts for buses.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the14
Legislature of Louisiana hereby urges and requests the Department of Education to15
coordinate a task force comprised of parish school board representatives in order to develop16
a school bus purchasing contract plan for the state and report any results, findings, or17
recommendations to the House of Representatives on or before February 15, 2011.18 HLS 10RS-1361 ORIGINAL

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the office of state purchasing and travel1
collaborate with the task force to assist in developing any necessary specifications for the2
state to enter into a contract for the purchase of school buses.3
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the4
superintendent of the Department of Education and the director of the office of state5
purchasing and travel.6
