HLS 10RS-3682 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 60 BY REPRESENTATIVES PEARSON AND CROMER CONDOLENCES: Extends condolences on the death of George Ernest Reine III A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of George Ernest Reine III of2 Slidell.3 WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of George5 Ernest Reine III of Slidell on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the age of sixty-four; and 6 WHEREAS, born in Mandeville, Louisiana, Mr. Reine was a lifelong resident of7 Slidell; and8 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine was a second-generation contractor with more than forty9 years of expertise in construction and land development, and he was the owner and operator10 of Summit Contractors, Inc., of Slidell; and11 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine constructed more than four thousand residential homes, local12 neighborhoods, and commercial buildings and personally donated the entire grounds on13 which Clearwood Junior High School was built; and14 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine served his community in various capacities, including as a15 former board member and past president of the Slidell Chamber of Commerce; past16 chairman of United Way; past chairman of the Boy Scouts of America fundraising17 campaign; and past school board member of Pope John Paul High School; and18 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine also served on two local bank boards and helped charter the19 St. Tammany Home Builders Association, which has more than one thousand members20 today; and21 HLS 10RS-3682 ORIGINAL HR NO. 60 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine was the first senior life national director with the National1 Association of Homebuilders from the St. Tammany Home Builders Association, a position2 he earned after twenty-five years of service; a past board member of the New Orleans Home3 Builders Association; a member of the Sales and Marketing Council of the National Home4 Builders Association; past chairman of the St. Tammany Home Builders Association Parade5 of Homes; and a member of the Land Development Council of the National Home Builders6 Association; and7 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine's community involvement included tremendous support for8 the St. Tammany Association for Retarded Citizens, the St. Tammany Economic9 Development Foundation, the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, the American Diabetes10 Association, the American Heart Association, the Safe Harbor Program for Battered Women,11 and the Easter Seals; and12 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine and his wife, Diane, were chosen to serve as King and Queen13 XI of the Krewe of Perseus in 1981, and he was also chosen to serve as King Samaritan14 XXXIV for the Slidell Women's Civic Club in 1983 in recognition of his commitment and15 involvement in the community; and16 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Diane17 Parker Reine; son, Scott Ernest Reine and his wife, Renee Whitmarsh Reine; mother, Bertha18 Miller Reine, brothers, Ronald Reine, Michael Reine, and Timothy Reine; father-in-law,19 Albert Parker; three grandchildren, Holly Arroyo, Dustin Arroyo, and Connor Reine; and20 an array of extended family members and friends; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine was preceded in death by his father, George Ernest Reine,22 Jr.; brother, Glen Reine; and mother-in-law, Wanzie Parker; and23 WHEREAS, with the death of Mr. Reine, Louisiana has lost one of her finest24 citizens; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Reine, who was admired by all whose lives he touched, leaves26 behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and27 WHEREAS, although the death of George Ernest Reine III has left a tremendous28 void in his community, his memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who29 knew and loved him.30 HLS 10RS-3682 ORIGINAL HR NO. 60 Page 3 of 3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the2 death of George Ernest Reine III of Slidell, does hereby recognize and record for posterity3 his outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend4 enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful man will forever bring to5 his family, friends, and community, the city of Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, and the state of6 Louisiana.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted8 to the family of George Ernest Reine III. 9 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
