ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 69 BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLMOTT A RESOLUTION To recognize the week of May 6 through 12, 2010, as Louisiana State Nurses Week. WHEREAS, cost-effective, safe, and quality health care services are an increasingly important component of the United States health care delivery system now and will continue to be so in the future; and WHEREAS, professional nursing has been demonstrated as an indispensable component of patient safety and quality patient care; and WHEREAS, the future demand for registered nursing services in the United States is expected to rise at an increasing rate because of the aging of the American population; and WHEREAS, a renewed emphasis on primary and preventive health care will require better utilization of all of the nursing resources of this nation; and WHEREAS, the depth and breadth of the registered nursing profession meets the different and emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; and WHEREAS, Louisiana's fifty-six thousand registered nurses and the nearly three million one hundred thousand registered nurses in the United States comprise the largest health care profession in this state and in the nation; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association, as the voice for the registered nurses of this state, is working to chart a new course for a healthy state which relies on increasing delivery of primary and preventive health care; and WHEREAS, the year 2010 has been declared the International Year of the Nurse in celebration of the centennial year of the death of Florence Nightengale (1820-1910), the founder of modern nursing; and WHEREAS, the week of May 6 through 12, 2010, has been declared Louisiana State Nurses Week; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 69 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the theme of Louisiana State Nurses Week is "Nurses: Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow". THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby celebrate the ways in which registered nurses strive to provide safe and high-quality patient care and chart the course for improving our health care system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby proclaim May 6 through 12, 2010, to be Louisiana State Nurses Week.
