COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Brother Martin High School basketball team upon
winning the 2010 Class 5A state championship
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Brother Martin High School basketball team upon winning the 2010 Class2
5A state championship.3
WHEREAS, the Brother Martin High School basketball team completed a4
sensational season, earning the title of 2010 Class 5A state champions after defeating5
Scotlandville Magnet High School by a score of 55-54 to win the thrilling state6
championship game at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Cajundome; and 7
WHEREAS, the Brother Martin Crusaders began the state playoffs as an upstart8
District 10-5A wildcard, entering the playoffs at the ninth seed; and 9
WHEREAS, the Crusaders faced the second-ranked Scotlandville Hornets in the10
championship game of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Farm Top 2811
Boys Basketball Tournament; and12
WHEREAS, down sixteen points in the second quarter, the Crusaders staged an13
incredible comeback, as reserve guard Dante' Butler scored the game's final points with 31.714
seconds remaining on the clock; and15
WHEREAS, senior standout Pat Swilling, Jr., who received Most Valuable Player16
honors for the championship game, followed Bulter with a steal in the final eight seconds17
of the game to secure the championship win; and18
WHEREAS, the Crusaders have made nine Top 28 Boys Basketball Tournament19

WHEREAS, this season marked the eighth state basketball finals appearance and the1
sixth state basketball championship win for the Crusaders and the culmination of another2
unforgettable season; and 3
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence4
throughout the 2009-2010 season and playoffs, and each of these intrepid Crusaders deserves5
recognition for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and 6
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved7
without the guidance and skills of head coach Scott Thompson as well as all of the other8
individuals who contribute to the success of the school's basketball program; and 9
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2009-2010 season upholds the glorious tradition10
of the Crusaders, and all Brother Martin High School alumni and fans recognize the11
immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and12
state.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the14
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Brother Martin High School basketball15
team upon winning the 2010 Class 5A state championship and does hereby extend best16
wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine basketball program as17
they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
to Scott Thompson, head coach of the Brother Martin High School basketball team.20
