HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 7
BY REPRESENTATIVE BROSSETT
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Brother Martin High School basketball team upon winning the 2010 Class
5A state championship.
WHEREAS, the Brother Martin High School basketball team completed a
sensational season, earning the title of 2010 Class 5A state champions after defeating
Scotlandville Magnet High School by a score of 55-54 to win the thrilling state
championship game at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Cajundome; and 
WHEREAS, the Brother Martin Crusaders began the state playoffs as an upstart
District 10-5A wildcard, entering the playoffs at the ninth seed; and 
WHEREAS, the Crusaders faced the second-ranked Scotlandville Hornets in the
championship game of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Farm Top 28
Boys Basketball Tournament; and
WHEREAS, down sixteen points in the second quarter, the Crusaders staged an
incredible comeback, as reserve guard Dante' Butler scored the game's final points with 31.7
seconds remaining on the clock; and
WHEREAS, senior standout Pat Swilling, Jr., who received Most Valuable Player
honors for the championship game, followed Butler with a steal in the final eight seconds
of the game to secure the championship win; and
WHEREAS, the Crusaders have made nine Top 28 Boys Basketball Tournament
appearances; and
WHEREAS, this season marked the eighth state basketball finals appearance and the
sixth state basketball championship win for the Crusaders and the culmination of another

WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence
throughout the 2009-2010 season and playoffs, and each of these intrepid Crusaders deserves
recognition for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and 
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved
without the guidance and skills of head coach Scott Thompson as well as all of the other
individuals who contribute to the success of the school's basketball program; and 
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2009-2010 season upholds the glorious tradition
of the Crusaders, and all Brother Martin High School alumni and fans recognize the
immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and
state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Brother Martin High School basketball
team upon winning the 2010 Class 5A state championship and does hereby extend best
wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine basketball program as
they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Scott Thompson, head coach of the Brother Martin High School basketball team.
