HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 76
BY REPRESENTATIVE RICHMOND
COMMENDATIONS: Commends Basileus Peggy C. Severe for being Woman of the Year
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Basileus Peggy C. Severe for being named Woman of the Year.2
WHEREAS, Peggy C. Severe was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but she3
eventually moved to New Orleans, Louisiana; and 4
WHEREAS, she received her high school diploma from Walter L. Cohen Senior5
High School; and6
WHEREAS, she received an Associates Certificate from Xavier University in Child7
Psychology; and 8
WHEREAS, she attended Straight Business School and went on to attend Katie's9
Beauty and Barbering School, which is one of the oldest African-American beauty culture10
schools; and11
WHEREAS, she also went on to receive her Teacher Training Certificate and became12
a teacher, administrative assistant, and later the supervisor at Katie's Beauty and Barbering13
School; and14
WHEREAS, she continued to work hard to be the best that she could be by earning15
a B.A. and M.A.; and16
WHEREAS, in August, 2001, she received her doctoral degree in cosmetology from17
the National Beauty Cultural League; and18
WHEREAS, she is a member of the N.B.C.L., Louisiana State Barbers Association19
Inc., Louisiana State Beauticians Association Inc., Vice President of Katie's Cosmetician20
Alumni, Theta Nu Sigma Sorority-Chi Chapter and Youth for Beauty Association; and21 HLS 10RS-4185 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, she is the owner and operator of Peggy's Place Beauty Shoppe; and1
WHEREAS, she has received many prestigious awards over the years because of her2
public and private affiliations; and3
WHEREAS, she is the widow of Mr. Jerome A. Severe and the mother of two4
children.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the6
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Basileus Peggy C. Severe for being named7
Woman of the Year.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted9
to Basileus Peggy C. Severe.10
