HLS 10RS-4300 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 77 BY REPRESENTATIVES MONTOUCET AND PUGH COMMENDATIONS: Commends Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond High School ProStart Culinary team for their successful participation in the National ProStart Invitational in May of 2010 A RESOLUTION1 To commend the Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond High2 School ProStart Culinary team for their successful participation in the National3 ProStart Invitational in May of 2010.4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to celebrate the achievements of students from Rayne5 High School and Hammond High School who competed at the National ProStart Invitational6 on May 2, 2010, in Overland Park, Kansas; and7 WHEREAS, on March 3, 2010, at the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education8 Foundation ProStart Student Competition in New Orleans, both Rayne and Hammond High9 Schools won their respective competitions and the right to represent Louisiana on the10 national level; and11 WHEREAS, in the national competition, Rayne High School's team placed first in12 the management category, and its winning team consists of teacher Kandice Dequeant and13 students Victoria Williams, Destiny Kapp, Joli Angelle, and Rebecca Palma; and14 WHEREAS, competing on a national stage among thirty-two teams, Rayne High15 School's task was to create a restaurant concept, and their entry was called "Mielé, Eco-16 Friendly Family Dining" and offered delicious, health-conscious menu choices, local17 produce, eco-friendly materials, and local art; and18 WHEREAS, each member of Rayne's team won thirty thousand dollars in19 scholarships from various culinary institutions in the United States; and20 HLS 10RS-4300 ORIGINAL HR NO. 77 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Hammond High School's team placed eighth in the culinary category1 at the national contest and includes teacher Patti Johnson and students Bethany Armstrong,2 Rosa Atkins, Olivia Myers, and Jazsmine Spears, as well as alternate Danielle Wilkins; and3 WHEREAS, Hammond High School competed in a field of thirty-nine teams, each4 of which had to demonstrate knife skills, poultry fabrication, and creative abilities through5 the preparation of a three-course meal in sixty minutes; and6 WHEREAS, the young women on the teams from Rayne High School and Hammond7 High School have served as outstanding ambassadors for Louisiana's unique culinary culture8 and demonstrated great maturity, skills, and talent; and9 WHEREAS, the mission of the ProStart program and competition is to increase10 student awareness of careers in the restaurant and food service industry and to provide the11 restaurant industry with a forum to present and recruit ProStart students; and12 WHEREAS, participating students complete a nationally endorsed, dynamic, and13 comprehensive curriculum which encourages them to learn all aspects of operating and14 managing a restaurant or food service establishment both in school and at structured, hands-15 on work sites; and16 WHEREAS, that Louisiana teams brought home the national title in the management17 category and placed in the top ten in the culinary category speaks volumes about the great18 ingenuity and dedication of the state's young people; and19 WHEREAS, the Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond20 High School ProStart Culinary team merit a special measure of commendation for the21 tremendous pride and honor they bring to their schools, their communities, and their state.22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the23 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Rayne High School ProStart24 Management team and the Hammond High School ProStart Culinary team for their25 successful participation in the National ProStart Invitational in May of 2010 and does hereby26 extend to the teams best wishes for continued success in their future endeavors.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted28 to the Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond High School29 ProStart Culinary team.30 HLS 10RS-4300 ORIGINAL HR NO. 77 Page 3 of 3 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
