HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 77
BY REPRESENTATIVES MONTOUCET AND PUGH
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond High
School ProStart Culinary team for their successful participation in the National
ProStart Invitational in May of 2010.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to celebrate the achievements of students from Rayne
High School and Hammond High School who competed at the National ProStart Invitational
on May 2, 2010, in Overland Park, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, on March 3, 2010, at the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education
Foundation ProStart Student Competition in New Orleans, both Rayne and Hammond High
Schools won their respective competitions and the right to represent Louisiana on the
national level; and
WHEREAS, in the national competition, Rayne High School's team placed first in
the management category, and its winning team consists of teacher Kandice Dequeant and
students Victoria Williams, Destiny Kapp, Joli Angelle, and Rebecca Palma; and
WHEREAS, competing on a national stage among thirty-two teams, Rayne High
School's task was to create a restaurant concept, and their entry was called "Mielé, Eco-
Friendly Family Dining" and offered delicious, health-conscious menu choices, local
produce, eco-friendly materials, and local art; and
WHEREAS, each member of Rayne's team won thirty thousand dollars in
scholarships from various culinary institutions in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Hammond High School's team placed eighth in the culinary category
at the national contest and includes teacher Patti Johnson and students Bethany Armstrong,
Rosa Atkins, Olivia Myers, and Jazsmine Spears, as well as alternate Danielle Wilkins; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 77

WHEREAS, Hammond High School competed in a field of thirty-nine teams, each
of which had to demonstrate knife skills, poultry fabrication, and creative abilities through
the preparation of a three-course meal in sixty minutes; and
WHEREAS, the young women on the teams from Rayne High School and Hammond
High School have served as outstanding ambassadors for Louisiana's unique culinary culture
and demonstrated great maturity, skills, and talent; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the ProStart program and competition is to increase
student awareness of careers in the restaurant and food service industry and to provide the
restaurant industry with a forum to present and recruit ProStart students; and
WHEREAS, participating students complete a nationally endorsed, dynamic, and
comprehensive curriculum which encourages them to learn all aspects of operating and
managing a restaurant or food service establishment both in school and at structured, hands-
on work sites; and
WHEREAS, that Louisiana teams brought home the national title in the management
category and placed in the top ten in the culinary category speaks volumes about the great
ingenuity and dedication of the state's young people; and
WHEREAS, the Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond
High School ProStart Culinary team merit a special measure of commendation for the
tremendous pride and honor they bring to their schools, their communities, and their state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Rayne High School ProStart
Management team and the Hammond High School ProStart Culinary team for their
successful participation in the National ProStart Invitational in May of 2010 and does hereby
extend to the teams best wishes for continued success in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Rayne High School ProStart Management team and the Hammond High School
ProStart Culinary team.
