COMMENDATIONS: Commends Nanette McCann of Baton Rouge Magnet High School
for being named the national Magnet Schools of America 2010 Principal of the Year
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Nanette McCann of Baton Rouge Magnet High School for being named the2
national Magnet Schools of America 2010 Principal of the Year.3
WHEREAS, Nanette McCann has served with unwavering dedication as principal4
of Baton Rouge Magnet High School (BRMHS) since 2002 and has been an educator for5
twenty-six years; and6
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCann was recently named the national Magnet Schools of7
America Principal of the Year at the 2010 Magnet Schools of America Conference in8
Tampa, Florida; and9
WHEREAS, as part of this very prestigious distinction, Mrs. McCann received10
$2,500, of which $1,500 is designated for her personal use and $1,000 is designated for11
Baton Rouge Magnet High School; and12
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCann was also named East Baton Rouge Parish Principal of the13
Year for 2010 and was also named Louisiana's Region II Principal of the Year; and14
WHEREAS, led with great effectiveness by Mrs. McCann, BRMHS provides an15
award-winning college preparatory and visual and performing arts curriculum; and16
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCann, along with the faculty and staff of BRMHS, is17
committed to providing a learning climate to help students develop the skills and attitudes18
of successful citizens in a global environment; and 19
WHEREAS, Nanette McCann merits a special measure of commendation for the20
tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her family, friends, and community, the21 HLS 10RS-3850 ORIGINAL

faculty, staff, and students of Baton Rouge Magnet High School, the city of Baton Rouge,1
and the state of Louisiana.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the3
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Nanette McCann of Baton Rouge Magnet4
High School for being named the national Magnet Schools of America 2010 Principal of the5
Year, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding accomplishments and6
singular contributions, and does hereby extend best wishes for continued success and7
happiness in all of her future endeavors.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted9
to Nanette McCann, principal of Baton Rouge Magnet High School.10
