HLS 10RS-4124 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 90 BY REPRESENTATIVES JOHNSON AND ROY CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Deanna Patin Roy of Marksville A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Deanna Patin Roy of2 Marksville.3 WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 Louisiana House of Representatives learned of the death of Deanna Patin Roy of Marksville5 on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the age of seventy; and 6 WHEREAS, a native of New Roads, Mrs. Roy came to Avoyelles Parish as a home7 economics and English teacher at Fifth Ward High School, following in the footsteps of her8 mother, who was a home economics teacher in New Roads for several decades; and9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now the10 University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority; and11 WHEREAS, as a young teacher, Mrs. Roy married Marksville attorney A.J. "Sookie"12 Roy, Jr., and together over the years, they became involved in several local banks, which13 eventually merged into Cottonport Bank; and14 WHEREAS, the Roy family has been active in banking in Avoyelles Parish since the15 1960s; and16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was the former president of the Mansura State Bank and17 served as the vice president of buildings and premises and director emeritus of the18 Cottonport Bank until her death; and19 HLS 10RS-4124 ORIGINAL HR NO. 90 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, over the years, Mrs. Roy used her culinary background to entertain1 national, state, and local dignitaries through bank functions and through her late husband's2 tenure as president of the state board of education; and3 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a devoted member of the Catholic churches in Avoyelles4 Parish, including St. Joseph Catholic Church; and5 WHEREAS, in her leisure time, Mrs. Roy was passionate about people, gardening,6 and her community; and7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was highly active in garden clubs and horticulture and had a8 passion for landscaping and flowers; and9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was also involved with the Louisiana Garden Club10 Federation, Inc. (LGCF) as a state life member, and she was also a member of the LGCF11 Eighth District Flower Show Judges' Council and the Marksville Garden Club; and 12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a nationally accredited flower show judge with the13 designation of master status, a landscape design critic with the designation of master status,14 and a gardening consultant; and15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy is survived by her son, A.J. Roy III; two brothers, Daryl Patin16 and his wife, Janie, and Fabian Patin and his wife, Anne; two grandchildren, Anthony J. Roy17 IV and Grace Katherine Roy; and an array of extended family members and friends; and18 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Roy, Jr., and her19 parents, Bertram and Frances Cerame Patin; and20 WHEREAS, with the death of Mrs. Roy, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens;21 and 22 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy, who was admired by all whose lives she touched, leaves23 behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and24 WHEREAS, although the death of Deanna Patin Roy has left a tremendous void in25 her community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew26 and loved her.27 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the28 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the29 death of Deanna Patin Roy of Marksville, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her30 HLS 10RS-4124 ORIGINAL HR NO. 90 Page 3 of 3 outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring1 appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever bring to her2 family, friends, community, and state.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted4 to the family of Deanna Patin Roy. 5 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
