ENROLLED Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2010 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 90 BY REPRESENTATIVES JOHNSON AND ROY A RESOLUTION To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Deanna Patin Roy of Marksville. WHEREAS, it was with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives learned of the death of Deanna Patin Roy of Marksville on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the age of seventy; and WHEREAS, a native of New Roads, Mrs. Roy came to Avoyelles Parish as a home economics and English teacher at Fifth Ward High School, following in the footsteps of her mother, who was a home economics teacher in New Roads for several decades; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority; and WHEREAS, as a young teacher, Mrs. Roy married Marksville attorney A.J. "Sookie" Roy, Jr., and together over the years, they became involved in several local banks, which eventually merged into Cottonport Bank; and WHEREAS, the Roy family has been active in banking in Avoyelles Parish since the 1960s; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was the former president of the Mansura State Bank and served as the vice president of buildings and premises and director emeritus of the Cottonport Bank until her death; and WHEREAS, over the years, Mrs. Roy used her culinary background to entertain national, state, and local dignitaries through bank functions and through her late husband's tenure as president of the state board of education; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a devoted member of the Catholic churches in Avoyelles Parish, including St. Joseph Catholic Church; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 90 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, in her leisure time, Mrs. Roy was passionate about people, gardening, and her community; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was highly active in garden clubs and horticulture and had a passion for landscaping and flowers; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was also involved with the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. (LGCF) as a state life member, and she was also a member of the LGCF Eighth District Flower Show Judges' Council and the Marksville Garden Club; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was a nationally accredited flower show judge with the designation of master status, a landscape design critic with the designation of master status, and a gardening consultant; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy is survived by her son, A.J. Roy III; two brothers, Daryl Patin and his wife, Janie, and Fabian Patin and his wife, Anne; two grandchildren, Anthony J. Roy IV and Grace Katherine Roy; and an array of extended family members and friends; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Roy, Jr., and her parents, Bertram and Frances Cerame Patin; and WHEREAS, with the death of Mrs. Roy, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Roy, who was admired by all whose lives she touched, leaves behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and WHEREAS, although the death of Deanna Patin Roy has left a tremendous void in her community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Deanna Patin Roy of Marksville, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever bring to her family, friends, community, and state.
