TAX/AD VALOREM TAX: Urges and requests the House Committee on Ways and Means
to study issues relating to property assessments for purposes of ad valorem property
taxes
A STUDY REQUEST1
To the House Committee on Ways and Means to study issues relating to property2
assessments for purposes of ad valorem property taxes and to report its findings to3
the House of Representatives prior to the convening of the 2011 Regular Session of4
the Legislature of Louisiana.5
WHEREAS, most Louisiana taxpayers have experienced increases in their annual6
property tax bill, which increases were due to changes in property assessments; and 7
WHEREAS, in some parishes, certain tax bills nearly doubled in the year after the8
2008 statewide reassessment; and 9
WHEREAS, the methods of valuation used in the assessment of property are10
established by law; and  11
WHEREAS, the imposition of a limit on the amount by which a taxpayer's property12
taxes can increase in one year is a policy option worthy of study.  13
THEREFORE, the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana requests14
the House Committee on Ways and Means to study issues relating to property assessments15
for purposes of ad valorem property taxes and to report its findings to the House of16
Representatives prior to the convening of the 2011 Regular Session of the Legislature of17
