ENGINEERS.  Changes licensure requirements for professional engineers licensed to
practice in other jurisdictions.  (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:693(B)(2)(b), relative to professional engineers; to change2
licensure requirements for professional engineers licensed to practice in other3
jurisdictions; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 37:693(B)(2)(b) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง693. Requirements for licensure as a professional engineer or professional land7
surveyor, and certification as an engineer intern or land surveyor8
intern9

B. The minimum requirements for licensure or certification by the board shall11
be as follows:12

(2) A professional engineer shall be either:14

(b) An individual who holds a valid license to engage in the practice of16

the United States, or the District of Columbia, based on requirements that do not1
conflict with the provisions of this Chapter and which were of a standard not lower2
than that specified in the applicable licensure laws in effect in Louisiana at the time3
such license was issued, who is of good character and reputation, and who has4
satisfied the requirements of R.S. 37:694, and or if the state, territory, or possession,5
or the District of Columbia, in which he is licensed will accept the license issued by6
the board on a reciprocal basis.7

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not9
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature10
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If11
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become12
effective on the day following such approval.13

DIGEST
Present law provides that the La. Professional Engineering and land Surveying Board can
license or certify a person who satisfies both of the following criteria:
1. The applicant holds a valid license to engage in the practice of engineering issued to
him by proper authority of a state, territory, or possession of the United States, or the
District of Columbia, based on requirements that do not conflict with the provisions
of present law and which were of a standard not lower than that specified in the
applicable licensure laws in effect in La. at the time such license was issued, who is
of good character and reputation, and who has satisfied the requirements of present
law; and
2. The state, territory, or possession, or the District of Columbia, in which he is licensed
will accept the license issued by the state of La. on a reciprocal basis.
Proposed law requires the board to license or certify a person that meets either of the criteria
set forth in present law.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
