TRAFFIC. Reduces the speed requiring payment of fines or penalties into the Louisiana
Highway Safety Commission Fund.  (7/01/10)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:266(B)(1), relative to traffic and speed limits on certain2
highways; to provide relative to the disposition of fines for exceeding the posted3
speed limit on an interstate highway to the "Louisiana Highway Safety Commission4
Fund"; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 32:266(B)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7
ยง266.  Enforcement of speed limit on certain highways; disposition of fines8

B.(1) After deposit to the Bond Security and Redemption Fund as required10
under the provisions of Article VII, Section 9(B) of the Constitution of Louisiana,11
all fines or penalties collected by or on behalf of a local law enforcement body for12
citations issued for exceeding the posted speed limit by less than ten seven miles per13
hour on an interstate highway, shall be forwarded to the state treasurer and credited14
to a special fund which is hereby created in the state treasury and designated as the15
"Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Fund."16
Section 2. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2010; if vetoed by the governor17 SB NO. 171

and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on July 1,1
2010, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.2

DIGEST
Present law provides that after deposit to the Bond Security and Redemption Fund pursuant
to Louisiana Constitution Article VII, Section 9(B), all fines or penalties collected by or on
behalf of a local law enforcement body for citations issued for exceeding the posted speed
limit by less than ten miles per hour on an interstate highway, shall be forwarded to the state
treasurer and credited to the "Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Fund." 
Proposed law reduces the speed requiring payment of fines or penalties into the "Louisiana
Highway Safety Commission Fund" to seven miles per hour over the posted speed limit on
an interstate highway.
Effective July 1, 2010.
