COURTS. To provide for the collection and disposition of court costs for the city court of
Lake Charles.  (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:2080.1(A), relative to city courts; to provide relative to the2
collection and disposition of court costs for the city court of Lake Charles; and to3
provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 13:2080.1(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง2080.1.  Miscellaneous city courts; fees; surplus in civil fee account7
A. Any city court located in a city with a population according to the most8
recent United States census of between sixty thousand and seventy-on e thousand9
people The city court of Lake Charles may impose an additional five-dollar fee as10
court costs in civil and criminal cases. The costs collected pursuant to this11
Subsection shall be deposited in the general fund for the city and shall be used for12
capital improvements for the building housing the city court.13

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not15
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature16
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If17 SB NO. 209

vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become1
effective on the day following such approval.2

DIGEST
Present law authorizes any city court located in a city with a population of between 60,000
and 71,000 according to the most recent U.S. census to impose an additional $5 fee as court
costs in civil and criminal cases to be deposited in the general fund of the city and used for
capital improvements for the building housing the city court.
Proposed law authorizes the city court of Lake Charles to impose an additional $5 fee as
court costs in civil and criminal cases to be deposited in the general fund of the city and used
for capital improvements for the building housing the city court.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
