Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 214 BY SENATOR MOUNT AND REPRESENTATI VE KATZ AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 37:793(G) and to enact R.S. 37:793(B)(5), relative to the2 administration of nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia; to provide for the administration3 of nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia by certain dental hygienists; to provide for a4 permit; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 37:793(G) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 37:793(B)(5)7 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง793. Nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia; enteral conscious sedation; parenteral9 sedation; deep sedation; general anesthesia; definitions; permits;10 credentials; reporting; fees; limitations; exceptions11 * * *12 B. The following terms describing routes of administration shall have the13 meanings ascribed to them unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:14 * * *15 (5) A dental hygienist who administers nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia16 in a dental practice shall receive a personal permit from the board and shall be17 in compliance with board rules and regulations which shall include educational18 requirements.19 * * *20 G. (1) The administration of enteral conscious sedation, parenteral1 conscious sedation, deep sedation, and general anesthesia shall be limited to2 qualified dentists licensed by the board for use on dental patients.3 (2) The administration of nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia shall be4 limited to qualified dentists and dental hygienists licensed by the board for use5 on dental patients.
