ROADS/HIGHWAYS. Designates a section of Highway 171 beginning at the intersection
of Sam Houston Jones Parkway and ending at the intersection of You Winn Road as the
"Senior Trooper Duane Dalton Memorial Highway." (8/15/10)
AN ACT1
To designate Louisiana Highway 171 beginning at the intersection of Sam Houston Jones2
Parkway and ending at the intersection of You Winn Road as the "Senior Trooper3
Duane Dalton Memorial Highway"; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. Louisiana Highway 171 beginning at the intersection of Sam Houston6
Jones Parkway and ending at the intersection of You Winn Road shall be hereinafter known7
as the "Senior Trooper Duane Dalton Memorial Highway." The Department of8
Transportation and Development shall erect appropriate signage reflecting this designation.9
Senior Trooper Duane Dalton spent his entire adult life serving the citizens of our state and10
country. Senior Trooper Dalton began his public service with the United States Army,11
where he served honorably. After serving in the United States Army, Senior Trooper Dalton12
became a police officer with the Lake Charles Police Department. On December 3, 1995,13
Senior Trooper Dalton became a Louisiana State Trooper. Well respected and well liked,14
the on-duty Senior Trooper Dalton was faithfully protecting the residents of this state, when15
on January 12, 2010, at approximately 7:30 p.m., he was killed in a two-car crash near Moss16
Bluff. Senior Trooper Duane Dalton is survived by his wife and three sons. Senior Trooper17 SB NO. 223

trooper to be killed in the line of duty in the history of the Louisiana State1
Police. 2

Proposed law designates Louisiana Highway 171 beginning at the intersection of Sam
Houston Jones Parkway and ending at the intersection of You Winn Road as the "Senior

signage reflecting this designation.
