MOTOR VEHICLES.  Provides for annual royalty fee for prestige license plates for high
schools.(07/01/10)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 47:463.73(C)(2), and (E), relative to special prestige license2
plates for Louisiana public and private high schools; to provide relative to collection3
of royalty fees; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 47:463.73(C)(2), and (E) are hereby amended and reenacted to read6
as follows: 7
ยง463.73.  Special prestige license plate; Louisiana public and private high schools8

(2) A royalty fee of twenty-five dollars for the use of the institution's design11
by the department shall be paid to the institution for each license plate issued as12
provided in this Section. At the option of any Louisiana public or private high13
school, this royalty fee shall be collected annually by the department.14

E. The secretary shall establish rules and regulations as are necessary to16

regulations governing the collection and disbursement of the monies generated from1
the one-time royalty fees for these plates, the transfer and disposition of such license2
plates, the colors available, and the design criteria.3

Section 2. The provisions of this Act shall be applicable to special prestige license5
plates for Louisiana public and private schools issued on and after July 1, 2010, or renewals6
of such plates on and after that date.7
Section 3. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2010; if vetoed by the governor8
and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on July 1,9
2010, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.10

DIGEST
Present law provides a special prestige license plate for Louisiana public and private high
schools.
Present law provides for collection of a one-time royalty fee for these plates by the
department.
Proposed law provides that at the option of any Louisiana public or private high school the
royalty fee shall be collected annually by the department. 
Proposed law applies to special prestige license plates for Louisiana public and private
schools issued on and after July 1, 2010, or renewals of such plates on and after such date.
Effective July 1, 2010.
