BY SENATOR WALSWORTH AND REPRESENTATIVES HOFFMANN AND KATZ
AN ACT1
To designate a portion of Interstate 20 as the "Powell, Barnes, and Deal Memorial2
Highway"; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  Interstate 20 in Ouachita Parish between the Interstate 20 World War II5
Memorial Bridge in West Monroe and the Lincoln/Ouachita Parish Line is hereby designated6
as the "Powell, Barnes, and Deal Memorial Highway" in honor of Marine Corporal Chad7
Powell of West Monroe who as a member of the 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine8
Expeditionary Force of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, was killed on June 25, 2005, when9
his convoy was attacked by a car bomb in Fallujah, Iraq; Lance Corporal Matthew Barnes10
of West Monroe who as a member of the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine11
Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, was killed on12
February 14, 2006, when a suicide bomber attacked his vehicle near Al Qa'im, Iraq; and13
Petty Officer 3rd Class Lee Hamilton Deal of West Monroe, who as a member of the Navy14
Regimental Combat Team-5, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, assigned to the 2nd Marine15
Division Fleet Marine Force Atlantic of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, was killed on May16
17, 2006, while clearing an area of insurgent activity in Anbar Province, Iraq.17
Section 2. The Department of Transportation and Development shall erect18
appropriate signs indicating this designation.19
