AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:63, relative to the Iberville Parish School Board; to provide relative to the2
size of the board and for the qualifications, election, term length, and remuneration3
of members; to provide relative to the adoption of an apportionment plan for member4
districts and approval of such plan; to provide relative to vacancies on the board; and5
to provide for related matters.6
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.7
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8
Section 1.  R.S. 17:63 is hereby enacted to read as follows:9
ยง63. Iberville Parish School Board; number of members; districts; election;10
terms; remuneration; qualifications; vacancies11
A. The Iberville Parish School Board shall consist of five members.12
Four members shall be elected from single-member districts and one member13
shall be elected from the parish-at-large. The single-member districts shall be14
designated as School Board District A, School Board District B, School Board15
District C, and School Board District D. The parish-wide district shall be16

B.(1) Not later than August 31, 2011, the Iberville Parish School Board1
shall develop a plan that will provide for the parish to be divided into four2
single-member districts, from each of which one member of said board shall be3
elected, and for one at-large district from which one member shall be elected.4
The single-member districts shall be drawn with as equal population as possible,5
utilizing population figures from the latest federal decennial census. The6
boundaries of the at-large district shall be contiguous with the geographic7
boundaries of Iberville Parish.8
(2) Prior to final adoption of such plan, the Iberville Parish School9
Board shall order a public hearing on the proposed plan and shall cause to be10
published in the official journal for the parish at least twenty days prior to the11
date of such hearing, the time and place thereof, a general summary and map12
of the proposed plan, and the times and places where copies of the proposed13
plan are available for public inspection. Thereafter, the Iberville Parish School14
Board shall be reapportioned as otherwise provided by law.15
C.(1) Each member of the board shall be elected at the election for16
school board members to be held at the general congressional election to be held17
in 2012.18
(2) The members elected in 2012, and their successors in office, shall19
serve for four-year concurrent terms.20
(3) All present members of the Iberville Parish School Board shall serve21
out the full term for which they were elected or until their successors have22
qualified and assumed office. 23
D.  All members elected to the Iberville Parish School Board shall24
assume the duties of office on January 1, 2013.25
E. Members of the Iberville Parish School Board shall receive the same26
remuneration, possess the same qualifications, and qualify for election in the27
same manner as now or hereafter provided by law for members of other parish28

F. Vacancies on the board shall be filled as provided by law generally for1
parish school boards.2
G. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, no member of3
the Iberville Parish School Board, who at the end of his term of office on the4
board will have served as a member of the board for more than two and one-5
half terms in three consecutive terms, such service being during terms that6
began on or after January 1, 2013, shall be elected to the board for the7
succeeding term.8
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor9
or, if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law10
without signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the11
Constitution of Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by12
the legislature, this Act shall become effective on the day following such approval.13

DIGEST
Proposed law provides relative to the Iberville Parish School Board as follows:
1. The Iberville Parish School Board shall consist of five members. Four members shall
be elected from single-member districts and one member shall be elected from the
parish-at-large. The single-member districts shall be designated as School Board
District A, School Board District B, School Board District C, and School Board
District D.  The at-large district shall be designated as School Board District E.
2. By not later than August 31, 2011, the board shall develop a plan that will provide
for four single-member districts, from which one member of the board shall be
elected, and for one at-large district from which one member shall be elected. The
single-member districts shall be drawn with as equal population as possible, utilizing
population figures from the latest federal decennial census. The boundaries of the at-
large district shall be contiguous with the geographic boundaries of Iberville Parish.
Requires the board to order a public hearing on the proposed plan prior to final
adoption of the plan. At least twenty days prior to the date of such hearing, the time
and place thereof, a general summary and map of the proposed plan, and the times
and places where copies of the proposed plan are available for public inspection shall
be published in the official journal for Iberville Parish. Thereafter, the Iberville
Parish School Board shall be reapportioned as otherwise provided by law.
3. Members shall be elected at the election for school board members to be held at the
general congressional election to be held in 2012.
4. Members elected in 2012, and their successors in office, shall serve for four-year

5. Present members of the board shall serve out the full term for which they were
elected or until their successors have qualified and assumed office.
6. All members elected to the board shall assume the duties of office on January 1,
2012.
7. Members of the board shall receive the same remuneration, possess the same
qualifications, and qualify for election in the same manner as now or hereafter
provided by law for members of other parish school boards.
8. Vacancies on the board shall be filled as provided by law generally for parish school
boards.
9. Effective with the members whose terms begin on January 1, 2013, no member of
the Iberville Parish School Board shall be elected to serve more than three
consecutive terms in office.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
