Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 423 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 49:220.26, relative to state administration; to provide for reserve investigators2 in the Louisiana Inspector General's Office; and to provide for related matters.3 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4 Section 1. R.S. 49:220.26 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 5 ยง220.26. Reserve investigators6 A. Any person who has served as a full time investigator for the office7 of the state inspector general and who retired or otherwise left the full time8 employment of the department in good standing and who has maintained9 certification and currently is certified by the POST Council, or any other person10 who has served as a Louisiana peace officer and who has maintained11 certification and who graduated from a Louisiana POST certified academy may12 be appointed as a reserve investigator for the office of the state inspector13 general.14 B. The inspector general shall be authorized to issue a reserve15 investigator's appointment as provided herein if the person satisfies the16 following requirements:17 (1) Qualifies on the Peace Officer Standards and Training firearms18 course.19 (2) Attends any seminars, workshops, or other meetings on issues related20 to the operation of the office of inspector general which may be required by the21 inspector general.22 (3) Complies with any other rule or regulation as may be required by23 the inspector general.24 C. Expenses incurred by a reserve investigator in the course and scope1 of performing his official duties shall be reimbursed.2 D. The inspector general shall have the power to revoke any reserve3 investigator's appointment at any time.4 E. Reserve investigators' appointments shall be valid only for a period5 of one year from the date of issuance; however, they may be renewed annually6 at the discretion of the inspector general.7 F. Upon the recommendation of the inspector general, each reserve8 investigator shall be eligible to apply to the superintendent of state police for a9 special officer's commission from the Louisiana Division of State Police under10 the applicable provisions of R.S. 40:1379.1.11 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not12 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature13 by the governor, as provided in Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If14 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become15 effective on the day following such approval.
