ASSESSORS. Transfers assets and debts of previous multiple tax assessors in Orleans
Parish to office of Orleans Parish tax assessor. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 47:1903.2, relative to the Orleans Parish assessor; to provide for2
the transfer of certain assets, records, and rights of the Board of Assessors of Orleans3
Parish to the Orleans Parish assessor; to provide that the Orleans Parish assessor4
shall be responsible for all assets and debts of the Board of Assessors of Orleans5
Parish; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.6
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.7
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8
Section 1.  R.S. 47:1903.2 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 9
ยง1903.2. Orleans Parish assessor; obligations; transfers from original, multiple10
assessors; legal counsel11
A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the single12
assessor in Orleans Parish shall be responsible for all of the obligations of the Board13
of Assessors of Orleans Parish and shall be vested with the right, power, and14
authority to do, perform, and exercise for and on behalf of the board of assessors all15
acts and things required to be done and performed in connection with the16
authorization, issuance, and repayme nt of revenue bonds issued by the board of17 SB NO. 43

B.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, effective2
at the time that the first single Orleans Parish assessor takes office:3
(1) All books, papers, records, money, account receivables, actions, and4
other property of every kind, movable and immovable, real and personal,5
possessed, controlled, or used, by each assessor constituting the Board of6
Assessors of Orleans Parish are hereby transferred to the Orleans Parish7
assessor.8
(2) All legal proceedings and documents relating to activities, facilities,9
and functions of the assessors constituting the Board of Assessors of Orleans10
Parish are hereby transferred to the Orleans Parish assessor and shall be in the11
name of the Orleans Parish assessor, and such Orleans Parish assessor shall be12
substituted for the original assessor or other office without the necessity for13
amendment of any document to substitute the name of the original assessor or14
other office for the Orleans Parish assessor.15
C. Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S. 16:2, the city attorney of the city16
of New Orleans shall represent the Orleans Parish Assessor assessor in all civil17
matters, unless the assessor, at his option, selects other counsel.18
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not19
signed by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of20
Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act21
shall become effective on the day following such approval.22
