CRIMINAL PROCEDURE. Provides relative to the role of grand juries with respect to
certain offenses. (8/15/10)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 437, relative to grand juries; to2
provide for inquiries into certain offenses; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1. Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 437 is hereby amended and reenacted5
to read as follows: 6
Art. 437.  Inquiry into offenses; authority and duties 7
The grand jury shall inquire into all capital offenses and offenses punishable8
by life imprisonment triable within the parish. It may inquire into other offenses9
triable by the district court of the parish, and shall inquire into such offenses when10
requested to do so by the district attorney or ordered to do so by the court.11

punishable by life imprisonment triable within the parish.
Effective August 15, 2010.
