MOTOR VEHICLES.  Provides for safety regulations of off-road vehicles. (8/15/10)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 32:299.2 and 299.3, relative to off-road vehicles; to require the use of helmets2
for certain individuals; to provide for a safety course; and to provide for related3
matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 32:299.2 and 299.3 are hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
§299.2.  Off-road vehicles; safety course7
Every off-road vehicle operator shall possess a safety certificate8
indicating successful completion of an off-road vehicle safety course approved9
by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.10
§299.3.  Off-road vehicle helmets11
No child under the age of twelve shall operate an off-road vehicle unless12
the child is equipped with and is wearing on his head a safety helmet of the type13
and design manufactured for use by operators of such vehicles, which shall be14
secured properly with a chin strap while the vehicle is in motion. All such safety15
helmets shall consist of lining, padding, visor, and chin strap and shall meet16
such other specifications as shall be established by the commissioner.17 SB NO. 598

Proposed law provides that every off-road vehicle operator shall possess a safety certificate
indicating successful completion of an off-road vehicle safety course approved by the
Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPS&C).
