DIGEST Present law defines a public carrier vehicle as any motor vehicle with a normal seating capacity of less than 10 passengers that is used for the transportation of passengers for hire over any streets by a route or to a destination controlled by the passenger. Requires the owner of a public carrier vehicle to obtain a certificate of public necessity and convenience from a municipal or parochial authority. Proposed law retains present law. Present law requires that in order to receive a certificate, the owner first must obtain a policy of liability insurance, which includes property damage for at least $5,000. Proposed law increases the minimum requirements for property damage insurance from $5,000 to $25,000. Effective August 15, 2010. (Amends R.S. 45:200.4)
