AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:221.4(C) and (D), relative to education; to provide relative to options2
available to certain high school dropouts pursuant to court order; and to provide for3
related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 17:221.4(C) and (D) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 6

C. A student, under eighteen years of age, who withdraws from9
school prior to graduating from high school, shall exercise one of the10
following options within one hundred twenty days of leaving school:11
(1) Reenroll in school and make continual progress toward12
completing the requirements for high school graduation.13
(2) Enroll in a high school equivalency diploma program and make14
continual progress toward completing the requirements for earning such15
diploma.16
(3) Enlist in the Louisiana National Guard or a branch of the17
United States Armed Forces, with a commitment for at least two years of18
service, and earn a high school equivalency diploma during such service19
period.20
ACT No. 666 D. The provisions of Subsection C of this Section shall apply only to1
students who have been ruled to be truants, pursuant to the provisions of2
Chapter 15 of Title VII of the Louisiana Children's Code, by a court of3
competent jurisdiction and ordered by the court to comply with the4
provisions thereof. 5
