Provides that a high school diploma awarded by an approved home study program shall receive the same recognition as one awarded by an approved nonpublic school. (8/15/10) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:236.1(G), relative to home study programs; to provide that a high school2 diploma awarded by an approved home study program shall be recognized by certain3 educational institutions and governmental entities in the same manner as one4 awarded by an approved nonpublic school; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 17:236.1(G) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง236.1. Approval of home study programs 8 * * *9 G. DIGEST Walsworth (SB 798) Present law provides for a process whereby a parent or legal guardian may apply to the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) for approval of a home study program and maintain approved status for such program. Proposed law retains present law. Proposed law provides that notwithstanding any rule, regulation, or law to the contrary, a high school diploma awarded by a BESE approved home study program shall be deemed by all public postsecondary educational institutions, all state departments, agencies, boards, and commissions, and all other state and local governmental entities to have all of the rights and privileges afforded to a high school diploma awarded by a state-approved nonpublic school.
